It took some time, but I finally got the keepsake box finished. I picked this box because it’s hand-made and period-correct…I got it from someone who got it from their own grandmother. It was made in 1934 by the woman’s husband as her sewing kit.
The other thing that attracted me was how the inlay reminded me of the floor in the ballroom of the McKittrick. No, it’s not an eight-pointed star, but it was suggestive enough that when I see it, I am reminded of that room.
I took it apart and painted the inside in the closest thing I could find to Manderley red and McKittrick green. Now we have plenty of space to keep the things we collect from the hotel, as well as other things we’re inspired to add, or in some cases (*cough* Annabella *cough*) told to procure. :)
